How many weeks legally must i give Notice?
Hi there,Mu job title is a "junior office assistant" But i actually do Search engine optimisation & manage cost per click accounts (online marketing) My boss pays me minimum wage which was fine while i was learning but i now do just as much as anyone else and there has been no mention of a pay rise. She keeps saying there is a contract she will be getting me to sign saying i wont work for a competitior and some other stuff. I have never seen this contract nor signed anything. How much notice can/should i legally give? And can i go and imediately legally work for a competitor? Im in melbourne Australia, thanks in advance.

You don't "legally" have to give any notice. Ethically, you should give 2 weeks, if you ever want to use them as a reference in the future, they will not have anything bad to say.

Legally ? What does your contract say ?Professional courtesy ? 2 weeks , but some employers terminate you when they learn you are leaving .Practically for a min wage job ?I would do like 48 hours , enough time for them to cut the final check .>

There are no legal restrictions, especially since you haven't signed a contract. You can leave a job whenever you want.

You should at least give 2 weeks notice. If any prospective employers call for a reference, they may be told you just "up and quit", which most employers don't like to hear (you may do it to them). Also, as for a competitor, that depends. Did you sign a non-compete agreement? It may limit if you can work for another competitor for a certain amount of time.
